Functional electronic wet chemicals refer to specialized chemical compounds formulated through composite technology to meet the unique process requirements in various manufacturing industries. In simple terms, these are ultra-clean, high-purity reagents—sometimes a blend of multiple such reagents—that are enhanced by adding water, organic solvents, chelating agents, surfactants, and other components. These chemicals play a crucial role in processes like cleaning, lithography, development, etching, and doping in the microfabrication of electronic components, including semiconductors, display panels, and solar cells. Moreover, they can be tailored to suit specific process needs.

Applications

Functional electronic wet chemicals are essential materials used in semiconductor manufacturing for processes like development, cleaning, and etching. Their primary applications span several fields, including:

1. Integrated Circuit Manufacturing:

In the production of integrated circuits, electronic wet chemicals are primarily used during wafer processing. This includes both front-end processes (such as surface preparation before wafer processing) and back-end stages (like packaging and testing). Wafer processing is a complex series of steps, including lithography, etching, oxidation, thin film deposition, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), and diffusion. Functional electronic wet chemicals are necessary for key processes like lithography, etching, oxidation, and surface treatment.

2. Flat Panel Display Manufacturing:

In flat panel display production, these chemicals are primarily utilized in the Array process, which involves the development, lithography (etching and stripping), and cleaning phases. The Array process resembles wafer processing but builds thin-film transistors on glass rather than silicon wafers. Functional electronic wet chemicals are essential for removing particles and organic materials from the substrate, developing and stripping photoresists, and etching circuit patterns.

3. Photovoltaic Cell Manufacturing:

The manufacturing of photovoltaic (solar) cells involves several stages, including texturing, PN junction creation, aluminum backplane preparation, metal contacts, and deposition of the anti-reflection layer. Functional electronic wet chemicals are particularly critical in the texturing, cleaning, and etching steps. The texturing process accounts for 60-70% of the total consumption of these chemicals in photovoltaic cell production.
